BRECON 1st team put in another brilliant batting performance in posting 269 for 8 at Rogerstone to bat the home side out of the game and setup a vital victory for the visitors.
Greg Webber was again the main man with the bat to put up his third ton of the season in posting 119 in a fine display of batsmanship.
He received solid support from the Williams brothers with Sam coming in with 45no and Matt 26 and a quick fire 24 from Rhys Pritchard.
The Rogerstone innings never came to terms with the Brecon bowling and they were dismissed for 110. Matt Williams with 4 for 18, made it a top day for him, but the star on the bowling front was the king of seam John Kenchington who continues to enjoy an Indian summer with 5 for 22 taking his wicket tally for the season to 30.
With two games to go against Ponthir and Barry both away one more point will see promotion for the 1st team achieved and with two wins it’s the League Title.
At home the 2nd team failed to emulate the 1st team and fell to a two run defeat in a game of fluctuating fortunes again Creigau 2nd team.
The visitors on being asked to bat first struggled to 150 for 9. The wicket takers for Brecon with one each were Ryan Morgan, John Cooke, Steve Kenchington and Fin Starkey but the stand out performer with the ball was Rob Hudman, making a welcome return with 4 for 42, to put the home team in a strong position at tea.
In reply at 82 for 1, with Mark Waldeck in imposing form on 57 all seem to be going well for Brecon, but then the rain came down big time resulting in an hour’s break and when the innings resumed a clatter of wickets turned the game dramatically in the visitors favour.
So much so that with 42 runs needed for victory Brecon found their last pair at the wicket but not just any last wicket pair but two experienced campaigners in the persons of Brian Skinner and John Cooke both batting unusually low in the order.
They managed to bring the game down to the last over of the game with seven runs required and when Captain Cooke stuck the first ball of the over for four the damp home supporters came to life.
This was followed by a single and a dot ball before the legends were separated with Brian Skinner being run out by inches going for a sharp single with only two balls remaining and two runs needed for a tie.
Next week the 2nd team entertain second placed Monkswood in the final game of the season for them in a fixture the visitors must win to have a chance of depriving Brecon of the league title with the home team having a lead of 13 points going into the encounter.
