Builth Wells CC 2nds 81-3 Luctonians CC 2nds 78-10 .

BUILTH Wells 2nds finally got their first win of the season today with a seven wicket win against Luctonians.

After winning the toss and asking the visitors to bat first on a damp looking wicket, a fantastic bowling performance meant that Luctonians were bowled out 79.

An excellent all round fielding performance meant wickets were taken at regular intervals. The score could have been much lower but for John Kelly’s quick-fire 28 which featured some big blows over the boundary.

Mike Williams finished with 4-28 whilst 13 year old Ben Cripps continued his fantastic season with three overs, two maidens, two wickets for one run. Steve Anderson also picked up two wickets, whilst the evergreen Kev Hall chipped in with one wicket and their was a run out to wrap the innings up.

In response, Builth got off to a steady start as batting wasn’t easy on a difficult pitch but a sensible batting performance meant wickets were never lost in clusters. Kev Hall went LBW for 5 which brought captain Tom Childs to the crease to join Richard Galton. The pair sensibly accumulated before Galton fell for 12.

Jonny Curzon blasted a quick fire 14 to take Builth to within reach of the total, and with Childs unbeaten on 27, it was down to Ian Morgan to hit the winning runs.

Builth take 23 points from the game, and look forward to welcoming Canon Frome this Saturday with a 1pm start at Garth Road.
