Captain Dylan McPhee scored a magnificent double century as Builth Wells hammered Bartestree & Lugwarding 2nds by 283 runs in the Worcester Cricket League Division Seven (South).

McPhee had an afternoon to remember as he flayed the visiting attack to all parts of the ground, sharing in a superb 262-run opening partnership with Sujeewa Senarathne. The latter fell just four runs short of a well-deserved century, hitting 13 fours and two sixes in his 96. McPhee was eventually out with the score on 324 with his 203 from just 117 balls, including 25 fours and 11 sixes.

Chris Jones (17), Martin Hurst (18 not out) and Ben Cripps (16) then pushed Builth up to a mammoth 413 for 9.

Bartestree were then bowled out for 130, with McPhee taking 3 for 14. Senarathe picked up 2 for 27 and Martin Hurst, the Bulls’ leading wicket taker this time, 3 for 29. Cripps and Samuel Avis also claimed a wicket apiece as Builth won by a huge margin.

Meanwhile, Hay slipped to a 16-run defeat at home against Dales in Division Eight (South) despite a phenomenal innings of 174 from captain for the day, John Sly in a match which produced almost 600 runs.

Dales openers, Jack Rowsell (112) and Harry Ellis (95) put on 163 for the first wicket as Dales made 302 for 6. Rhydian Evans-Bevan was the pick of the Hay bowlers with 2-22 from his nine overs while Levi Phillips took 2 for 42.

Hay’s reply got to 82 for 3 before Sly, batting at number five, scored his 174 from just 73 balls as he hit an incredible 14 fours and 16 sixes. Wayne Evans had made 29 and Evans-Bevan finished on 20 not out as Hay’s effort fell just short ending a fantastic afternoon’s cricket on 286 for 8.
