Builth Wells suffered back-to-back defeats in the Worcester County League Division Seven (South) at the weekend after being beaten by five wickets at Brockhampton 3rds.
The Bulls were restricted to 222 for 9 from their 45 overs. While several batsmen got good starts, none managed to go on and make that big score which might have made the difference in the end.
Neil Harris (20), Aled Powell (26), Dylan McPhee (22) and Musa Makhubela (29) kept the scoreboard ticking while Martin Hurst (53) and Paul Greenway (31) were the topscorers lower down the order.
In reply, Brockhampton reached their target in the 38th over with Elliot Jones (46) and Joe Pritchard (41) the main run-getters. McPhee (2-32) was again the pick of the Builth bowlers with Greenway (1-42) and Harri Phillips (1-60) also picking up a wicket.
Meanwhile, Hay slipped off the pace in Division Eight (South) losing by seven wickets at leaders, Luctonians. Tim Masters (30) and Gareth Grant (33) got Hay off to a decent start but Lucs’ bowlers did not give much away. John Sly made 19 while Gabriel Moore topscored with 43 not out from just 37 balls as Hay totalled 194 for 8 from their 45 overs.
Luctonians chased down the score for the loss of three wickets in the 39th over with Chris Ibbetson hitting an unbeaten century. He featured in a 73 opening wicket partnership with Duncan Platford (21) before Grant (2-26) and Gus Price (1-25) briefly threatened for Hay. But Ibbetson (106 not out), from 98 balls, and Ian Probert (44 not out) put on an unbroken 97 for the fourth wicket to win with time to spare.
Kington remain second to Luctonians in the table after winning by two wickets in a rain affected match at Ledbury 2nds.
