Builth Wells fell to 101-run defeat at the hands of leaders, Woolhope, in the Worcester Cricket League Division Seven (South) with the visitors’ Dom Larkin proving the difference, writes Paul Worts.

After putting Woolhope in, Builth struck early with Musa Makhubela (2-58) and Harri Phillips (1-58) taking wickets in their opening overs. But Larkin then proved a thorn in Builth’s side, dominating the innings with 129 which included 16 fours and eight sixes. Andrew Tanner (23) was the next highest scorer while Builth did not help their cause conceding 49 extras, which include 29 wides. Woolhope were all out for 276 in the 43rd over despite the best efforts of Bulls captain, Dylan McPhee, who took 4 for 39 in his nine overs, getting rid of both Larkin and Tanner. Sam Avis took 2 for 21 and Martin Hurst 1 for 20.

Builth, who were without key batsman, Timmy Richards and all rounder, Sujeewa Senarathene never really looked like winning the game, losing wickets at regular intervals. McPhee (53) hit eight fours and two sixes, again showing his class in Builth’s reply but Steff Towns (14), Neil Harris (22) and Aled Powell (18) all got starts but failed to build on them. Harri Phillips hammered 24 batting at number 10 but Builth were all out for 175 inside 28 overs, with Larkin completing a man of the match performance for Woolhope, taking 5 for 47 in his nine overs.
