TALYBONT cricket club recently held their annual presentation evening at the Usk Hotel.

Chairman Geraint James began the evening by thanking all players and supporters who had represented the club through a season which saw them play eight games in which they won four and lost four.

James was joined by captain Dan Bowen as the pair presented the awards firstly to Huw Griffiths who collected the most runs with 284 just pipping Bowen who totalled 278.

Griffiths then picked up the most wickets with a total of 15. Other award winners were Dan Bowen who picked up the fielding trophy along with a trophy for his first century for the club.

Lewys Cooke collected his award for his first 50 for the club. Cooke and Bowen also won most improved awards. Chairman James then called upon Margaret Cox who presented the Dai Cox youth award to Victoria James.

Griffiths then also collected the clubman of the year award. The last award to be presented was the prestigious players player of the year trophy which for the first time was shared between Griffiths and Richard James who couldn’t be separated by their fellow team mates.

James then presented chocolates to tea ladies Karen Gould and Dorothy James who once again provided a fine tea service well appreciated by opposition sides.

Yet another well attended evening ended with captain Bowen thanking the chairman for all his hard work and providing travel for all Talybont’s away fixtures. A fine effort by all at Talybont to complete another season as cricket in rural areas has sadly become a struggle for many.
