Talybont 257 for 3 Strollers 2nds 85 all out
TALYBONT moved into third place with a convincing 172 run win over a brave strollers side who travelled with just eight men.
Strollers won the toss and asked Talybont to bat on a glorious day. Bont suffered an early blow when captain Dan Bowen was bowled with the second ball of the innings for 0.
Craig Samuel was next to go caught behind for 13 and the home side in early trouble at 17 for 2. Craig robinson then took little time to get into his stride as he blasted three boundaries and five maximums in his 46 before he was caught.
At 75 for 3 a truly remarkable partnership of 182 in just 26 overs took place between the vastly experienced Martin Hurst who ended with a superb 121 not out and youngster Richard James a fine 66 not out as the mixture of youth and experience combined to great effect.
Hurst striking 17 boundaries and four maximums with James 11 boundaries and one maximum as bont ended on 257 for 3 off their 40 overs as strollers toiled in the sun but never gave up. After the tea interval bont wasted little time making a breakthrough as Huw Griffiths trapped Andrew Corey-Wright LBW for 0 and Lewis Deacon bowling Nick Terry for 2.
After 20 overs strollers and grinded their way to 21 for 2 with Griffiths 10 overs 1 for 11 and Deacon 10 overs 1 for 8 giving nothing away. Mark Pirie and Dave Pascoe then dug in deep as they battled to prevent Bont from picking up bowling points.
They appeared to be doing this before a late flurry of wickets which included one of crickets finest moments as Craig Robinson 4 overs 3 for 0 claimed a hat trick a feat rarely seen.
Carl Lewis 1 for 11 and Guy williams 1 for 5 also chipped in with wickets as Bont used eight bowlers to break the stubborn resistance of strollers. To his credit Mark Pirie stood firm and carried his bat for a gritty 62 as strollers ended 85 all out with Bont picking up the full 25 points.
