Brecon Corries were sitting proudly at the top of the Ardal League South East on Saturday night following a stunning 6-1 home win against high-flying Abergavenny Town.

The visitors arrived at the Hub Scaffolding Rich Field boasting a 100 per cent record but were blown away, with Craig Evans leading the way with a hat-trick for the Chisels, who made it four league wins in a row. A delighted Corries boss, Damien Daniels, described the performance as phenomenal and one of the best he has seen for years.

Craig Evans netted the only first-half goal after being set up by Jay Ryan Hughes. Two goals in quick succession early in the second half put Corries firmly in the driving seat, with Evans scoring his second from another assist by Hughes, who increased the lead by rounding the ‘keeper to net from a tight angle. Ben Brooks pulled one back for Abergavenny but they were never really in the game and Jamie Williams squared for Evans to complete his hat-trick. Corries’ substitutes then joined the party, with Williams turning from provider to goalscorer with the fifth from a Mitchell Davies pass before man-of-the-match Jay Ryan Hughes flicked Leo Davies through to complete the six-hit.

Corries’ recent form will be put to the test this weekend when they host Port Talbot Town, from the Ardal League South West, in the second round of the FAW Amateur Trophy. Elsewhere in the competition, Radnor Valley are away at Dolgellau while Knighton Town host Menai Bridge Tigers.
