Brecon Corries and Llandrindod Wells are through to the first round proper of the JD Welsh Cup following thrilling victories at the weekend.
Corries came out on top following a nail-biting penalty shoot out victory at Cardiff Draconians on Saturday afternoon. Corries showed their characterin coming from behind three times to snatch a 4-4 draw before triumphing 9-8 on penalties.
Adam Rees had put the home side in front but Nathan Williams had Corries back on terms by half-time. Rees netted again two minutes into the second half but Craig Evans this time regained parity with just over an hour played.
Matt Hibbs put the Cardiff side ahead for a third time four minutes later and when Callum Nippers added their fourth it looked game over. But Corries displayed their never say die attitude with Joel Evans reducing the deficit on 88 minutes before scoring again in stoppage time.
There is no longer extra-time in Welsh Cup ties so it went straight to penalties where a thrilling shoot-out saw Corries go through with debutant Dave Hansford netting the winning spot-kick.
Llandrindod Wells join Corries in the first round draw following a 3-1 victory over Radnorshire rivals, Knighton Town.
The home team opened the scoring inside the fourth minute when Liam Hall grabbed his first goal for the club shot when his went in off the underside of the crossbar, after Daniel Hall had pulled the ball back into his path from the byline.
The lead was doubled just six minutes later when Daryl Nicholls lifted the ball over the head of Knighton Town goalkeeper Jamie Griffiths.
Llandrindod Wells extended their advantage on the half hour mark when Daniel Hall swept home a Robbie Nicholls pass following a swift break down the right.
The Radnor Robins reduced the deficit within a minute of the restart when Dovey’s half-volley found the back of the net after a free-kick into the home penalty area was only partially cleared.
Despite a flurry of changes for both sides in the second half, the Spa Men had done enough to book their place in the draw for the first round proper of the competition.
Presteigne St Andrews are out of the Welsh Cup following a 4-2 loss at Abermule.
Corin Jones’ side were down at the interval following a goal from Abermule’s Tomas Jones. The same player added a second on 74 minutes but Jamie Blythe pulled one back for Presteigne. Substitute Josh Jones regained Abermule’s two goal advantage with two minutes remaining before the teams traded late goals with Callum Thomas raising Presteigne hopes only to see Charlie Humphreys seal it for the home side.
Elsewhere in the Welsh Cup in Mid Wales, goals from Ryan Edwards and Mark Gornall earned Penparcau a 2-0 passage at Montgomery Town. Max McLaughlin completed a hat-trick as Llanfair United swept past Llanrhaeadr with a convincing 5-0 away success. Karl Seliaerts and Ryan McVeagh were also on target while Llanrhaeadr had Dan Kelly sent off with McLaughlin also seeing red for Llanfair.
Bow Street carried their impressive league form over into the Cup with a 2-1 win at Dolgellau. A Jon Harisson own goal proved decisive for Street after Gerwyn Williams had cancelled out Dafydd Carruthers’ opener.
Machynlleth beat Waterloo Rovers on penalties after it finished 2-2 while Caersws are through without kicking a ball as local rivals, Carno conceded their tie.
