Brecon Corries 8 Mardy AFC 0

THE Corries welcomed Abergavenny’s Mardy AFC to the Rich Field last weekend in the FAW Trophy Round two having had a bye in Round one.

The opposition play in the Gwent League and are well respected in the region. Having started well this season with three Wins, one loss and a draw in all competitions confidence is extremely high having added to the squad in the off season.

Sporting new hairstyles, kit (kindly sponsored by SEER Construction) and battle hardened from five games in three weeks, the Corries were out of the blocks with real intent.

Four minutes in and James Jeffries opened the account latching onto a loose ball in the box. Minutes later scorer turned provider passing to manager Damien Daniels to ease the ball around the keeper. Creating numerous chances the home side could have added two or three more in quick succession.

Brian Keddle terrorised the home side all game with midfield partners Gav Perry and Luke Roughley bossing the show. Out on the left Jack Evans was full of energy, pace and creativity and was rewarded with 20 minutes remaining in the first half with a well taken goal and the Corries third.

Solid at the back Nathan Collacott controlled defensive duties with keeper and captain giving positive feedback at all times. This positive mentality was evident throughout the Mardy AFC side who in all fairness were taking a battering.

Not once did their heads drop and their discipline was exemplary. Anything can happen in a cup game and Daniels’ men were more than aware of this as the whistle blew for half time.

Back to work in the second and it was soon 4-0 with the in form Brian Keddle adding to his season haul with another. Wanting to show a ruthless streak the home side pressed their advantage and could have scored numerous more.

Off the bench and straight on the scoresheet was Paul Keddle in the 79th minute followed minutes later by Jack’s second. The floodgates were open and the Corries poured in and drowned Mardy AFC.

Man of the Match Luke Roughley scored a spectacular volley which was rewards for his dominant display in midfield before substitute Lee Brooke’s hammered home the Corries eighth booking their place in the third Round draw.

Positivity won the day and ruthlessness sent a well organised, friendly and tired Mardy back down the A40. In a potential banana skin match the Corries came out winners.
