Brecon Corries are due to return to league action this Saturday when they take on the form side of Welsh football.
Penydarren BGC will make the short trip over the Beacons, from their base in Merthyr Tydfil, to the Rich Field looking to maintain their 100% winning record.
Despite being unbeaten all season, without having dropped so much as a single point, Penydarren are seventh in the Highadmit Projects South Wales Alliance Premier Division table.
That is because the club’s remarkable success in Welsh football’s knockout competitions, including the Welsh Cup, has seen their league programme take a back seat as fixtures have piled up as the club’s remarkable winning run has continued.
The Corries are just one place below, and six points behind, Penydarren in the table but the Brecon side have completed 16 league fixtures compared to just the nine their visitors have managed to fit into their busy schedule.
Penydarren have a total of 27 points but have 12 games in hand on leaders Sully Sports who have 37 points, the same total as second placed Ynyshir Albions and Cardiff Draconians.
Penydarren manager Kerry Mullin has already said however promotion from the Alliance League remains the club’s priority this season.
Despite Penydarren’s impressive run the Corries insist they are looking forward to the game and are urging supporters to enjoy the occasion.
The club posted on its Twitter account: "Come down and show your support. It’ll be a testing match but our lads are raring to go and are full of confidence!"
Supporters have also been reminded the club doesn’t allow the drinking of alcohol at the pitch side.
The clubs last met in August when the Corries lost by three goals to nil early in Penydarren’s long winning run.
On Saturday the Corries will be hoping cup success could finally prove a distraction for their visitors who may already be dreaming of their Welsh Cup quarter final against Welsh Premier League high flyers Bangor City.
That Sunday, March 4 tie at Bangor’s Nantporth stadium will be broadcast as S4C’s Sgorio live match as the fairytale story of the fifth tier side, who’ve reached the last eight of one of world football’s oldest cup competitions in the first year they’ve entered it, has captured the nation’s imagination.
As well as being the lowest ranked side remaining in the JD Welsh Cup Penydarren are enjoying success in the FAW Trophy and will face Conway Borough FC in the semi finals of that competition, having won their quarter final against Welsh Alliance side Llangefni Town from Anglesey on Saturday, and in all the club remains in contention in four competitions.
The Corries had a weekend off when their fixture at Cardiff Corries was called off due to the weather.
Brecon Corries V Penydarren BGC kicks off at the Rich Field at 2.30pm on Saturday, February 17
