IT was a disappointing day for the local sides in the Spar Mid Wales League first division with Hay St Marys and Llandrindod Wells suffering away defeats.

It was back to back league defeats for Hay who were beaten 3-1 at Machynlleth. Having won the home fixture 5-1 earlier in the term, The Saints were eyeing a double but found themselves two down with Richie Evans and Andrew page scoring for Machynlleth. Jack Biggs raised Hay hopes by pulling one back but a penalty from Evans sealed it for the home side.

Llandrindod saw their poor run continue with a 1-0 loss at Aberaeron with Gareth Severs grabbing the all important goal for The Seasiders. After winning seven league and Cup matches to start the season, Llandrindod have now lost seven on the trot.

But they were desperately unlucky on Saturday after dominating much of the game which even Aberaeron admitting Llandrindod should have won but for a terrific rearguard action on their part.

Iwan Matthews bagged four of the goals as Llanrhaeadr thumped Tywyn Bryncrug 7-2 with Chris Aitken, Jack Brayne and Wayne Austin also chipping in.

Peter Rees returned to Carno following a spell at Guilsfield and opened the scoring in a 5-0 win at Montgomery Town. Andy Evans (2), Ashley Owen and Greg Brown also netted to leave Montgomery rooted to the bottom.

Ifan Burrell scored the only goal as Bow Street beat leaders, Welshpool Town 1-0 while Llanidloes Town suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Waterloo Rovers. Charlie Proctor had put The Daffs ahead against his former club but Ian McLeod, Neil Pryce and Wil Pritchard (pen) gave Rovers the spoils.

In Division Two, Presteigne played out a 3-3 draw with Aberystwyth University last Tuesday night. Ioan Hughes (2) and Spencer Morgan netted for Presteigne, who moved up a couple of places in the table, with Liam Powell, Tom Spicer and Nial Jones on target for the students, their third goal coming in the final ten minutes.
