Brecon Corries were downed by Abertillery Bluebirds at home and Builth surrendered a two-goal lead in a loss last weekend.
ARDAL LEAGUE SOUTH EAST
Brecon Corries tasted defeat at the hands of Abertillery Bluebirds for the third time this season as they were beaten 3-1 by the Ardal League South East title hopefuls at The Rich Field.
Tom Beynon had The Bluebirds in front inside the first minute but Paul Keddle soon had The Corries back on level terms in a competitive first half. Kyle Williams regained the away side’s lead nine minutes into the second half and despite having Danny Hillman sent off, Abertillery clinched the points with a third goal from Christian Mbongompasi - his first for the club.
ARDAL LEAGUE NORTH EAST
There were defeats for both Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells in the Ardal League North East on Saturday but Rhayader Town picked up what could be a priceless point in a goalless draw at Llangollen Town.
Builth Wells, who had beaten leaders, Caersws the previous week, will be disappointed as they surrendered a two goal lead before going down 3-2 at Bow Street.
Builth played probably their best football of the season in the first half and Lee James headed them in front from a Lyndon Jones corner. The Bulls were well on top and Jamie Evans deservedly added a second in first half stoppage time. Sion Ewart reduced the deficit on the hour and a controversial penalty decision, given by the assistant referee, saw Rhydian Davies tie the scores from the spot. And Bow Street snatched a late winner to take them within five points of leaders, Caersws with Ewart netting his second following a mistake in the Builth defence.
Llandrindod twice threw away the lead as they were beaten 4-2 at in-form Llanrhaeadr who have now won five of their last six in the league.
Daryl Nicholls headed Llandrindod in front with his first league goal of the term from a Jack Evans corner bur Dale Evans levelled for the hosts direct from a corner at the other end Ashley Jones headed the Spa men back in front from an Evans free-kick before half-time but Tom Evans fired Llanrhaeadr back on terms early in the second half. A Will France free-kick put Llanrhaeadr ahead for the first time and Llandrindod’s chances were hampered when goalscorer, Jones was handed a straight red card.
Player-manager, Gareth Jones was also sent from the dugout after collecting a second yellow card before William Roberts-Morris completed their misery with a fourth for the hard working home side.
Rhayader Town picked up their first away point of the term with a battling goalless draw at Llangollen Town. But a look at the league table suggests draws are not good enough for The Red Kites who remain rooted to the bottom. It was a physical encounter at Llangollen where goalkeeper, Eifion Price, who has come into replace Kham Steventon, had another sound game and Rhayader created the best two chances in the second half. Both Sion Herman and Dennis Bates failed from one on one situations as Rhayader drew a blank.
Corwen remain a point above Rhayader following a 2-2 draw at home against Rhos Aelwyd. Ryan Billington and Scott Evans (pen) twice put Corwen ahead but Dafydd Robertson and Ian Hughes hit back for Aelwyd.
At the top of the table honours were even as Caersws and Cefn Albion played out a 1-1 draw. Craig Harris had given Caersws a half-time lead but Ryan Kehoe equalised from the penalty spot six minutes from time.
Llanfair United saw their poor run continue as they lost 3-0 at home against Llanuwchllwyn who scored through Will Owen (2) and John Evans while Dolgellau recorded a fine 2-1 win at Penycae with goals from Will Gruffydd and David Edwards.
MMP CENTRAL WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)
Radnor Valley kept the pressure on Hay St Marys at the top of the MMP Central Wales League (South) with a 3-0 victory at Machynlleth.
Early goals from the returning Rees Morris and Callum Matthews put The Goats in the driving seat. Machynlleth had Rob Jones sent off midway through the second half and Geraint Lloyd went on to complete Radnor’s win scoring for the ninth league game in a row.
Knighton Town made it back to back wins in the league as they eased to a 6-0 home success over Talgarth Town who welcomed back veteran, Scott Powell. The Radnor Robins were quick out of the blocks netting two early goals through Connor O’Connell and Sam Hoyle. That was how it remained until the second half when Knighton stepped up a gear adding further goals through Dan Farmer, Jack Hoyle (2) and Sam Hoyle who also completed a brace.
When Presteigne St Andrews visited Aberaeron back in September, they lost 3-2 after opening up a two goal lead. And on Saturday at Llanandras Park, Presteigne again forged a two goal lead and again ended up on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline. Jamie Blythe scored twice for The East Radnor side at the weekend but Chris Aldritt got one back for Aberaeron before half-time. Two second half goals from Keelan Noble and Efan Jones turned the game on it’s head and Presteigne’s hopes faded when Matthew Tilson picked up a second yellow card on 72 minutes.
Penybont United had a day to forget as they were trounced 21-2 at Penparcau where Ryan Edwards led the rout with a seven goal salvo. Mikey Gornall and Mattie Davies both bagged hat-tricks, Dan James and Mark Evans scored twice with Mark Gornall, Elwyn Edwards, Tommy Morgan and Will Roberts completing the spree. Alfie Stonefield netted both goals for Penybont who travelled with a bare eleven and must surely wished they had stayed in the Mid Wales League (South).
Elsewhere, Aberystwyth University ended a run of three straight defeats with a 1-1 draw at Llanilar. Charlie Howard put the students in front but a Josh Evans own goal meant it ended all square.
WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)
Felindre opened up the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) title race with a 2-0 win against leaders, Newcastle. Tom Griffiths scored twice in the second half to earn The Millers the derby spoils and their first ever win over their local rivals.
There was little to separate the sides in a goalless first half but as the match wore on, Felindre had the greater will to win. Griffiths opened the scoring pouncing on a defensive error and completed his double from a set piece.
St Harmon are now just two points behind Newcastle with two games in hand after romping to an 11-2 verdict over Presteigne St Andrews Reserves.
Adam Watson led the list of scorers with a four goal haul and Jacob Jones and Troy Watson each scored twice. Harry Powell, Ben Jackaman and Tom Groves completed the spree with Duanne Anning and Corey Blythin-Williams netting for Presteigne.
FAW NATIONAL RESERVE LEAGUE CENTRAL
Builth Wells made a welcome return to action in the FAW National Reserve League Central coming from behind to defeat Welshpool Town 2-1 on The Lant Field.
It has been a frustrating time for The Bulls who were playing for only the second time since mid November. And that period of inactivity meant they were slow starters with Ethan Kinsey putting the visitors ahead in the first five minutes. Joint player-manager, Dave Thomas had Builth level by half-time with a fine 20 yard finish but they were reduced to ten men four minutes into the second half when captain, Aled Powell picked up a second yellow card. But ten man Builth were excellent after that and ‘keeper, Jordan Jarvis made two crucial saves before Brad Rollinson, another member of the management team, came off the bench to set Blake Evans up for the winner with ten minutes remaining.
Rhayader Town extended their recent unbeaten run to three with a 1-1 draw at home against Penrhyncoch on Friday night. Both goals came in the first half with ex Cymru Premier striker, Geoff Kellaway giving Penrhyn the lead from the penalty spot which was cancelled out by the in-form, Sam Crumpton.
In last week’s other game, Llanidloes Town romped to a 7-1 victory over Llanfair United. Oliver Evans opened the scoring before Will Denham (2), Gregg Brown and Josh Jones made it 5-0 by half-time. Rhys Evans and Josh Peck increased the lead in the second half before Taylor Windsor gained Llanfair’s consolation.
