RADNOR VALLEY are in FAW Trophy action this weekend when they take on former high flyers Caersws.

The Goats travel to the former Welsh Premier League side in the third round of the FAW Trophy on Saturday.

The Montgomeryshire club, who had been playing at the second tier, Cymru Alliance League, before relegation in 2018 finished fourth in the MMP Mid Wales League Division 1 last year with Radnor Valley finishing tenth.

This term the northern Bluebirds are currently sixth in the league and crashed out of the JD Welsh Cup on Saturday losing 3-1 away to lower ranked Greenfield FC, who play at the fourth tier in north Wales’ Welsh Alliance Division 2.

Radnor Valley have struggled this term and are currently third from the bottom of the MMP Mid Wales League Division 1 but did record a moral boosting 2-1 win at Tywyn Bryncrug, the club immediately below them in the table.

Caersws were founder members of the League of Wales, in 1992, but were relegated, when the number of clubs was reduced to 12 for the start of the 2010 season.

During their spell in the top flight the Bluebirds won the League Cup three times, in 2001, 2002 and 2007, and also competed in the Intertoto Cup in 2001 losing on aggregate to PFC Marek Dupnista of Bulgaria.

Caersws have also won the FAW Trophy, when it was known as the Welsh Amateur Cup, in 1961.

The clubs are yet to face each other in the league this season and Saturday's game, at the Recreation Ground in Caersws, kicks off at 2pm.

This weekend’s action kicks off on Friday night when Hay St Mary’s host Llandrindod Wells Reserves under the Friday night lights.

The clubs meet in the Watsons Financial Mid Wales League (South) clash at Forest Road with the visitors fourth in the table five points clear of the seventh placed Saints who have four games in hand.

Builth Wells, who suffered a disappointing home loss to Ton Pentre in the Welsh Cup, return to MMP Mid Wales League Division 1 action on Saturday when they are away at Kerry.
