KNIGHTON Town made it five wins in a row in the Spar Mid Wales League first division with a 3-0 home success over Montgomery Town on Boxing Day.
The Robins continued their charge up the table with goals from Connor Bird, Dewi Allen and Adie Jones. There was a scrappy start to the game but Knighton took control after Bird gave them the lead midway through the first half with a good finish from a tight angle. Allen got the second after the break when he bundled home Adam Worton’s corner and man-of-the-match Jones sealed the win firing home from 30 yards.
Carno go in to The New Year top of the table following their 2-1 local derby success over Llanidloes Town. It was touch and go whether the game went ahead but Carno will be glad it did as the came from behind to pocket the points.
Matthew Savage had volleyed The Daffs into an interval lead but it was a different story after the break when Carno had the elements in their favour. They forced a couple of goal line clearances and also hit a post before Peter Rees levelled on 72 minutes and six minutes later, Greg Brown stabbed home a winner from close range.
And Penrhyncoch, many’s tip for the title, are second after a 4-0 home win against Aberaeron. Jonathan Evans handed Penrhyn an interval lead and scored again in the second half along with Mattie Davies and Nathan Warren.
In the day’s other game to go ahead Welshpool Town took the bragging rights as they edged out town rivals, Waterloo Rovers with a narrow 2-1 success. Two goals from Wil Thomas effectively settled it for Town with Wil Pritchard raising Waterloo hopes when he pulled one back.
Hay St Marys and Llandrindod were frustrated with their clash postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The Bow Street v Machynlleth game was also postponed as were all but one game in Division Two.
Berriew romped to an 8-2 win against Dyffryn Banw with Richard Davies leading the way with a hat-trick. Rob Pritchard (2), Steffan Rogers, George Davies and an own goal completed the tally for Berriew who are now just two points behind leaders, Kerry with the small matter of four games in hand.
