WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

Tom Groves struck twice as St Harmon notched only their third win of the season triumphing 2-1 at bottom of the table Felindre. Groves had given The Swifts an interval lead and went on to bag the winner after Ieuan Thomas had levelled for The Millers.

Talgarth Town edged ever closer to the title with a narrow 1-0 verdict at Newcastle. Joel Weale netted the all important goal midway through the second half although the league leaders had to play the last six minutes a man short after topscorer, Harry Sharman saw red for foul and abusive language to the referee.

Elsewhere Llandrindod Wells Reserves were 3-0 winners at Brecon Northcote. Darren Murphy and Andrew Morgan saw the Spa men two up at the break and Murphy sealed the win with his second in the second half.

MMP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1

Berriew closed the gap on the leaders in the MMP Mid Wales League first division with a 4-2 home win against Llansantffraid Village on Friday night. In the one MMP game in both divisions to survive the weather, Berriew moved to within seven points of Llanidloes Town with three games in hand.

Charlie Humphreys gave Berriew an early lead after capitalising on a defensive error and Richard Davies added a second at the far post following a corner. Davies added his second just before half-time converting a cross from Humphreys. Nathan Prodger pulled one back straight after half-time for Llansantffraid but Berriew regained their three-goal advantage when Davies was denied his hat-trick and recent signing, Baile Austin netted the rebound against his former club. Tom Ring grabbed a late second for Llansantffraid but it was too little too late with Berriew keeping their challenge for honours on course.

CENTRAL WALES CUP

Radnor Valley have been drawn against MMP Mid Wales League Division One rivals, Berriew in the semi-final of their season’s Central Wales Cup. The two league meetings between the sides this season have resulted in a 6-2 defeat for Radnor at Berriew while the home fixture ended 3-3.

And what’s the betting that the tie will not go to penalties with The Goats having beaten Guilsfield, Caersws and Carno in earlier rounds – all three ties going all the way.

In the other semi-final, Llanrhaeadr or Builth Wells will take on Four Crosses or Llanidloes Town.

The Radnor Valley v Berriew tie will be played at Llanidloes on Tuesday, April 2 with the other semi-final the following night at Caersws.
