MMP MID WALES LEAGUE CUP
Builth Wells will play Caersws in the MMP Mid Wales League Cup Final. The Bulls booked their final spot with a 3-2 verdict over Carno in the semi-final at Rhayader on Good Friday. Last season’s second division Champions, Builth have acquitted themselves well at the higher level and remain on course for a top six finish while manager, Dylan McPhee will see the cup final appearance as the icing on the cake.
On Friday, Builth and Carno traded early goals on Friday with Josh Price netting for Builth and Josh Matthews for Carno. Danny Ives headed Builth in front from a Sam Williams corner and Tom Bethell added a third from the penalty spot when Price was brought down meaning a second for Carno from Joe Morris was no more than a consolation.
Builth had warmed up for the semi-final with a 3-2 league victory at Radnor Valley last Tuesday night.
Danny Ives had headed Builth in front in the first half from Johnny Samuel’s corner, Gavin Samuel added a second after the break when Jack Hammond headed a Sam Williams corner back across goal and Tom Bethell soon increased the lead with a great 25 yard finish. Builth had further chances but Joey Price reduced the deficit with a penalty with ten minutes remaining. A Sean Powell own goal right on the final whistle gave the scoreline more respectability as far as Radnor were concerned but the local derby had belonged to an in-form Builth who maintained their recent form by beating Berriew 1-0 on Monday. A late free-kick from Sam Williams, following a red card for the Berriew ‘keeper, was all that separated the sides but it was enough to end Berriew’s faint title hopes.
Berriew had triumphed 1-0 at Llandrindod Wells last Wednesday night thanks to a late winner from Charlie Humphreys. The Rhiwsiders went on to draw 1-1 at Llanfair United on Saturday in the top of the table clash with Rhys Stephens levelling after Nathan Edginton had put Llanfair ahead.
And it is Llanfair who will land the title if they win at Kerry on Saturday after they eased to a 4-0 victory at Carno on Monday. All the goals came in a one sided first half from Paul Griffiths, Karl Seliaerts, Josh Astley and Andrew Hughes. Llanfair are level on points with Llanidloes Town but have a better goal difference than The Daffs who are away at Tywyn Bryncrug in their final game.
Llanidloes had pulled off a hard earned 2-1 away win at Aberaeron. The Daaffs had trailed to an Ifan Burrell goal and also saw ‘keeper, Kris Williams save a penalty. Matthew Savage headed an equaliser and Aberaeron had a goal disallowed before Gareth Owen put Llanidloes 2-1 up. And they had a few anxious moments late on after Dewi Allen was sent off for collecting a second yellow card in stoppage time.
Llandrindod Wells returned to winning ways on Saturday coming from behind to triumph 3-1 at Churchstoke with goals from Samed De Groot, Johnny Williams and Stuart Williams.
Radnor Valley perhaps had one eye on the Radnorshire Cup Final as they went down 3-1 at Tywyn Bryncrug on Friday night. Nick Williams scored twice and Aston Heath also netted for Tywyn with Craig Pigott gaining Radnor’s consolation.
Tywyn have however had a good end of season and drew 3-3 at Bow Street earlier in the week when two late goals robbed them of all three points. Tom Allen Davies (2) and Aled Jones had seen them 3-1 ahead but Bow Street hit back through Ryan Evans, Josh Crowl and Ricky Ricketts
Bow Street went on to record two 3-1 victories with Crowl and Tom Williams netting against Llansantffraid Village and Williams, Gamon Nutting and Rhydian Ap Dafydd scoring at Churchstoke.
Welshpool ended their season with Wil Thomas bagging a hat-trick in a 3-2 verdict at Aberaeron who replied through Llew Lloyd and Elwyn Edwards.
MMP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 2
Hay St Marys notched a comfortable 6-0 home success against Dolgellau in the MMP Mid Wales League second division. The Saints, still in the hunt for promotion, never really looked back after Matty Tong drilled home the opener on 14 minutes and further strikes from Jack Biggs and Liam McInally saw them lead 3-0 at half-time.
Dolgellau wasted a good chance early in the second half which might have changed things but Hay soon were back on top and substitute, Adi Lawford increased their lead before topscorer, Biggs and Greg Preece completed the tally.
Four Crosses moved a point above Hay with two wins over the holiday week-end. Michael Barton’s side won 4-2 against Borth United on Saturday with stalwart, Gareth Jones completing a hat-trick. Steve Biston netted their other from a free-kick with Dion Ellis-Clark and Mike Straw replying.
Crosses went on to win 4-2 at Dolgellau on Monday with goals from Jones, Shin Miah, Kyle Wilson and Steve Pugh.
Hay now need to win their final league game of the season at Borth on Saturday and hope Rhayader Town can do them a favour when they take on Four Crosses.
Rhayader themselves ran out 5-0 winners against Machynlleth on Saturday. The visitors were late arriving and put up little resistance as Jamie Evans (2) and Ryan Addison saw The Red Kites forge a three goal interval lead. Rhayader rang the changes at half-time but continued to dominate with Addison grabbing his second while Marc Wozencraft was also on target.
WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)
St Harmon turned in an impressive second half showing to beat Hay St Marys Reserves 5-3 in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South). But The Swifts had to come from behind as Hay had led 2-1 at half-time through Jake Assirati and Julian Assirati before going further ahead early in the second half through Harry Ratcliffe.
Harry Powell scored St Harmon’s first half goal and after the break, Alun Evans netted twice along with Mark Price and Geraint Mathias.
Llandrindod Wells Reserves ended their league campaign on a winning note as they defeated League Cup finalists. Penybont United 5-2 on The Broadway. The Spa men were on fire in the first half and raced 3-0 ahead with goals from Andrew Morgan, Darren Murphy and Leroy Smith. Jonathan Davies and Tom Evans netted after the break with player-manager, Gavin Johnson and Fin Francis replying for Penybont who had won 2-0 at Presteigne Reserves earlier in the week. Phil Ruell gave them a first half lead with a shot from the edge of the box and Scott Davies secured the points late on as he went past a number of would be tacklers to smash home.
Presteigne picked up a point at the week-end with a creditable draw at Champions, Talgarth Town. Tom Lewis gave Presteigne the lead but Rob Evans equalised. The game also counted as a Ron Ellis Cup semi-final and it was Presteigne who progressed following a penalty shoot out.
ASPIDISTRA RADNORSHIRE CUP FINAL
Llanidloes Town lifted the Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup for only the second time in their history with a big 6-2 victory over Radnor Valley in Easter Sunday’s Final at Rhayader Town’s Weirglodd.Radnor’s hopes of retaining the County Cup were shattered as they failed to show up against a rampant Daffs.
The Goats, who badly missed suspended captain, Ieuan Price, gifted Llanidloes a number of goals and Gregg Brown, Peter Rees and Gareth Owen saw them build a commanding three goal lead. Veteran Geraint Lloyd pulled one back for Radnor but Jordan Jones and a screamer from Ashley Owen all but put the tie to bed.
Joey Price did reduce the deficit but Llanidloes had the final say with Gregg Brown completing Radnor’s misery with his second.
