KNIGHTON Town were just two minutes away for the Spar Mid Wales league first division title and promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance as a thrilling title race ended on Saturday.

With The Robins leading 2-1 at home against Llanrhaeadr and rivals, Penrhyncoch being held 0-0 by Hay St Marys, the title was Knighton’s. But Penrhyncoch captain, Owain Jones headed in on 88 minutes to give Penrhyncoch a 1-0 victory and snatch the title for Garri Lewis’ side.

Knighton had done all they could, trailing to a Wayne Austin goal at half-time before Adam Worton’s side hit back with two goals in as many minutes. Knighton Town goal scorers were Sam Williams from 30 yards and a Gareth Mansell free-kick.

Llandrindod Wells rounded off their campaign with a 3-0 win against basement side Montgomery Town. Robbie Nicholls put Llandrindod ahead n the first half and a second half brace from Richie Powell sealed it for the Spa men who are sure of a top six finish.
