MMP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1
Llandrindod Wells fell just short against Llanidloes Town in the MMP Mid Wales League first division last Wednesday night eventually slipping to a 4-3 home defeat. Llandrindod had three times led but Llanidloes hit back with former Knighton Town player-manager, Adam Worton grabbing their winner.
The Spa side took an early lead with Ryan Sims netting from close range after Ashley Jones had flicked on a Kieran McCarley free-kick. Llanidloes gradually worked their way back in and were level on the half hour with Connor Bird netting the rebound after Llion Jenkins hit the post. McCarley hit a post with a free-kick but Llandrindod regained their lead with Michael Collister converting a penalty after Ashley Jones was brought down. A penalty att the other end meant it was all square at half-time with Bird netting his second following a foul by Corin Jones.
Llandrindod were on the front foot from the restart after the break and had some very good chances one of which was converted by Ryan Sims. Ed Clarke equalised for The Daffs when his free-kick evaded everyone, including young ‘keeper, Kham Steventon, before Worton settle an entertaining match by heading in from a corner.
Llanidloes went on to play out a 1-1 draw against visiting Llanfair United at the week-end. It was a cracking game between two of undoubtedly the best sides in the division with Peter Rees firing Llanidloes ahead only for Josh Astley to level immediately.
Victory would have put Llanidloes top but it is Caersws who remain in poll position after their 4-0 home win against Tywyn Bryncrug in midweek. With title rivals, Radnor Valley and Llanidloes Town dropping points the previous week-end, The Bluebirds cashed in. A second half brace from Phil Jones sealed victory after Rhydian Davies and Elliot Jones had given them a two goal interval lead.
Berriew are very much in the title hunt and made it eight wins from their last nine in the league with a 1-0 home verdict over Carno. The Rhiwsiders enjoyed the better of the exchanges but left it late with a last minute penalty from Georg Mitten finally breaching a stubborn Carno defence.
There was a ten goal thriller at Llansantffraid Village who drew 5-5 with local rivals, Welshpool Town. Wil Thomas (2), Ricky Lichfield, Steve Jones and Ian Probert netted for Welshpool with Rob Carruthers (2), Nathan Prodger, Jake Harris and Nathan Buckley scoring for Llansantffraid who many feel are better than their league position suggests.
MMP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 2
Taylor Wozencraft got the only goal as Rhayader Town maintained their impressive home form in the MMP Mid Wales League second division with a 1-0 home success against Abermule last Tuesday night. It was not by far Rhayader’s best performance of the campaign but a win is a win. The Red Kites were indebted to ‘keeper, Liam Addison who made a string of fine saves in the first half before Wozencraft netted direct from a corner after the break to make it five wins from six home games in the league.
The two other Division Two games at the week-end resulted in wins for Montgomery Town and Four Crosses. Montgoery got their title challenge back on course with a 3-0 ho me success over Abetrystwyth University while Crosses edged put Dyffryn Banw 3-2 with Steve Pugh snatching a late winner.
WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)
Paul Bishop made it back to back hat-tricks as Llandrindod Wells Reserves pulled off a 5-2 victory over Presteigne Reserves to leapfrog their rivals in the league table. Scott Oxford and Tom Evans were also on target for the Spa men with Liam Tomkins and Tim Office replying for Presteigne who trailed 3-0 at half-time.
Knighton Town maintained their revival with a 3-1 win at St Harmon where Sam Hoyle gave them an interval lead. Topscorer, Adam Martin levelled for The Swifts but Lucas Kirkby (pen) and Dan Farmer ensured The Robins took the spoils.
James Coleman completed a transfer from Montgomery Town to Llanidloes Town last week and had an immediate impact on his debut. Coleman grabbed four goals as The Daffs triumphed 9-1 at Hay St Marys Reserves. Gregg Brown netted twice with Rhys Evans, Jensen Jones and Zach Evans completing the tally while Chris Assirati gained Hay’s consolation.
Builth Wells Reserves went one better with Liam Ryland and Shane Claringe each bagging hat-tricks in a whopping 10-1 victory against Felindre. Daniel Walker, Aron Walters, Gethin Jarman and Adam Chessell also chipped in with Ieuan Thomas replying for the league’s bottom side. Builth ‘s win was marred only by the second half sending off of George Wood for a professional foul.
EMRYS MORGAN CUP
Not one team from the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) will be in the hat for the Emrys Morgan Cup 3rd Round draw after defeats for the remaing four teams on Saturday.
League leaders, Talgarth Town fell to a rare defeat this time, beaten 4-1 at home by Guilsfield Reserves, who are top of the Montgomery Amateur League first division. Ben Sharman scored a consolation for The Royals who were without a couple of key playes while the influential Danny Barton (2), Steve Tomkins and Graeme McGill netted for Guilsfield.
Penybont took Tregaron to extra-time before bowing out 4-2 at The Racecourse. Scott Davies and Phil Ruell scored for Penybont but goals from Llyr Davies (2), Will Williams and Arwel Jones saw Tregaron through.
Two goals from Mark Jones, one from the penalty spot, could not prevent Newcastle going out 5-2 at Crannog while Brecon Northcote were beaten 6-0 at home by Bishops Castle.
