THE Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) is likely to run with thirteen teams for the 2016-2017 season.

At last Monday night’s Annual Meeting at Hundred House Inn, club representatives heard that Carno Reserves had withdrawn from the league citing the travelling time involved.

They will be replaced by Penybont FC who will field their Reserves team having stepped up from Under 16 level. There was concern expressed as to the future of Brecon FC who did not attend the meeting.

Officers were all re-elected en bloc with Brian Bufton remaining as president, Edward Parry as chairman and Alan Randell as vice chairman. Phil Woosnam and Paul Worts continue as their roles of treasurer and secretary while Neil Matias, Dave Lewis and Kevin Price make up the league executive committee.

Edward Parry and Dave Lewis will again represent the league on the Central Wales FA.

The chairman congratulated Rhayader Town Reserves on achieving a league and cup double and also Hay St Marys who landed the Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup.

Phil Woosnam thanked Builth wells FC and Presteigne St Andrews FC for hosting the two finals and advised that the league had made a slight profit on the season but the Radnorshire Cup had made a loss.

It was proposed that next season’s Final is played on the traditional Easter Monday in the hope of attracting a better crowd. He also thanked the sponsors, Roger Watson, Pip Samuel and Mr and Mrs Eaton of the Aspidistra Restaurant.

Paul Worts again expressed his concern of the shortage of referees and asked would clubs consider playing some games on a Friday night to help ease the problem.

Affiliation fees will remain the same with the 2016-2017 season kicking off on Saturday August 20 while the Owen Evans Memorial Summer Cup Final will between Rhayader Town Reserves and Knighton Town Reserves will be played prior to that date.

Mr Terry Foulkes, Central Wales FA vice chairman addressed the meeting and complimented officials on their running of the league. Mr Foulkes also announced that Paul Worts, who has just stepped down as CWFA competition secretary, has been made a life member of the Central Wales Football Association.
