There were wins for Brecon Corries and Talgarth Town during this weekend’s football action, as Llandrindod celebrated their first league win of the season in impressive style.
Corries are up to seventh in the Ardal League South East following a resounding 5-1 home win against Tredegar Town.
The Rich Field squad led through a Nathan Williams goal at half-time, with goalkeeper Declan Gaydon having an outstanding game keeping Tredegar at bay.
Brecon were three goals up with almost an hour played with further strikes from Jack Bain and Craig Evans.
Joel Evans set Bain up for his second and player-manager, Damien Daniels, popped up with a rare goal these days with Connor Evans gaining a reply for Tredegar in stoppage time.
Llandrindod Wells celebrated their first win of the season in the Ardal Leage North East as goals from Jack Evans and Danny Hall were enough to earn a 2-1 home success over high-flying Cefn Albion.
Llandrindod went into the game without a win in five in the league while Cefn Albion were unbeaten.
Evans gave the Spa men a first-half lead with his first goal since his brief spell with Abergavenny Town.
Cefn Albion started the second half strongly, deservedly levelling through Jordan Johnson but Hall grabbed the winner with just four minutes remaining.
Rhayader Town failed to build on their success against Corwen the previous week with The Red Kites suffering two defeats by the narrowest of margins.
On Saturday, Penycae left The Weirglodd with a 1-0 victory under their belts.
Danny Holland scored the only goal from the penalty spot at the end of the first half and it was always going to be an uphill struggle for Rhayader when James Thomson was sent off soon after the break.
Rhayader had suffered a cruel 2-1 defeat at Caersws last Tuesday night with Neil Mitchell snatching a stoppage time winner for The Bluebirds.
The Red Kites had led for much of the night through Mark Jones but former Welsh Premier man, Mitchell, showed his quality to score twice and leave Rhayader empty handed.
Bow Street lost their 100 per cent record in a 2-1 defeat at Welshpool Town, where Ricky Litchfield scored twice for the home side before Sion Ewart pulled one back.
Llanfair United however made it five wins from five with Grant Butler, Nyash Mwamuka and an own goal securing a 3-0 win at Llangollen Town.
Caersws romped to a 6-0 win at Llanrhaeadr despite having Calum Bennett sent off early on.
Glynn Coney and Norton Collins each scored twice with Luke Evans (pen) and Scott Williams also on target with Llanrhaeadr themselves reduced to ten midway through the second half when Jack Tyrrel saw red.
Rhos Aelwyd remain top despite a 1-1 draw at home against Dolgellau with James Rumsey salvaging a point after Jon Harisson had given Dolgellau the lead.
Knighton Town continued their bright start to the season with a 2-1 win at Felinfach in the second round of the prestigious Emrys Morgan Cup.
The Radnor Robins forged a two-goal interval lead through Billy Hyett and Kieran Dovey before the Costcutter League first division leaders reduced he deficit through Aled Davies.
Talgarth Town notched a 5-2 home win against Aberporth which hopefully can kickstart their season.
Kyle O’Shea (2) and Jayden Stansfield saw Talgarth three up at half-time and substitute Bean Warry netted twic,e before Aberporth netted two consolation goals from Dylan Jones and Matthew Smith.
Radnor Valley are also through after a 4-1 victory against Dewi Stars at The Bypass.
Radnor, without the injured Joey Price, scored twice in the first half through Jake Bufton and Ieuan Price. Rhodri Morgan put the visitors back in the tie but Tom Lewis regained Radnor’s two-goal advantage before Taylor Wozencraft completed their win from the penalty spot.
Hay St Marys suffered a surprise early exit from the competition, beaten 2-0 at home by Llechryd where Jac James and Ewan Jones struck in the first half .
There was no cup joy for Mid Wales League (South) sides, Felindre and Newcastle.
Felindre travelled to West Wales to face Bargod Rangers and went down 4-1 with James Reynolds gaining their consolation from the penalty spot after a Rob Jenkins hat-trick and a goal from Jake Shakespeare had put Bargod out of sight.
Newcastle, who were playing their first match of the season following a couple of postponements, lost 4-2 at home against Welshpool Town Reserves.
Edgar Whateley gave the Shropshire men the lead but Owain Richards and Tom Halliday (2) turned it round for Welshpool.
Craig Morris pulled one back for Newcastle in the second half but Halliday completed his hat-trick to seal the tie.
There are two all local ties in Round Three of the Emrys Morgan Cup which was drawn last week.
Radnor Valley’s reward for their win against Dewi Stars is an away tie with Builth Wells Reserves, who were handed a second round walkover against Newcastle Emlyn.
Talgarth Town and Knighton Town meet while the winners of this weekend’s outstanding tie between St Harmon and Presteigne St Andrews will be at home against Tregaron.
