Cradoc Golf Club’s ladies put in an excellent performance at the Wales Golf Handicap competition, held at Creigiau Golf Club on Sunday, August 31.

The event brought together teams from across the country, including well-established clubs such as St Pierre, Tenby, Langland and Celtic Manor, many of which have far larger women’s sections. Each team was made up of four players, with the best three individual Stableford scores counting towards the total.

Cradoc entered two teams and both returned impressive results on what proved to be a challenging course.

Team Mags, led by captain Mags Jones and including Steph Jemkins, Ronnie Cresswell and Jan Watkins, secured a very creditable fifth place with 91 points. Hot on their heels in sixth place was Team Bush, featuring Liz Bush, Sarah Parker, Sue Pryce and Cath Maggs.

Given that Creigiau’s two home teams secured second and third place – aided by their course knowledge – the Cradoc sides’ achievements were seen as particularly encouraging.

Thanks were paid to handicap captain Mags Jones for her knowledge, leadership and commitment, and to Cradoc Lady Captain Diane Davies for her ongoing support.

The highlight of the day, however, was the outstanding individual performance of Cath Maggs.

Playing the course for the very first time, Cath delivered the highest individual score of the event with a superb 37 points. After a tentative start, she settled into her round, with her long game proving consistently strong and her putting of the highest quality. Her back nine was described as “almost faultless.”

Cath’s efforts earned her a special medallion, presented by Wales Golf in recognition of her achievement.

Club members hope the result will provide Cath with the confidence to continue building on her potential and establish herself as one of Cradoc’s leading golfers. Congratulations Cath, and best wishes for your future golf.
