JUNIOR golf in Brecon and Radnor hasn’t been popular during recent years but recent events have seen an upturn in interest and participation.

This can be attributed to those few caring members in the various golf clubs who have had the foresight to see that youngsters are the future life blood of their clubs.

PGA Professional Simon Edwards, based at Builth Wells Golf Club has been largely responsible for reviving the Brecon and Radnor Junior Championship held at Builth Wells on Tuesday August 9, and who’s Friday Night sessions with the valued assistance of his wife, Sherrie and volunteer Chris Probert, are well patronised by the juniors.

The Union was also further aided by a generous donation from the former members of Summerhill Golf Club who decided to donate their remaining funds on the dissolution of the club in March 2014.

The sum of £2,196.76 was donated to the Brecon and Radnor County Union for the promotion and running of the Junior County Championship .

Additionally each club within the Union received a donation of £500 towards the provision of junior coaching.

Summerhill Golf Club trustee Derek Keeble was surely right when he felt that this was the best way to use this money and the best way for the club to be remembered.
