June was another busy month at Cradoc Golf Club, with several competitions taking place and plenty of action on the course.
The club hosted the Brecon and Radnorshire Ladies Championship and one leg of Wales Golf’s Ping Tour. Earlier in the month, members also took part in the Summer Solstice 12-hole competition, held in memory of the much-loved Gill Badham.
But the highlight for the ladies’ section came at the weekend with the Ladies Club Championship – always a key date in the calendar.
A good number of players turned out to compete over 36 holes on Saturday and Sunday. Windy conditions on Saturday made scoring tricky, while Sunday’s round was played in the heat, providing a very different challenge.
Despite the conditions, competition was fierce and the results were close.
Brenda Powell won the 18-hole nett competition, while Janice Williams had the best nett score over 36 holes.
This year’s Ladies’ Club Champion is Mags Jones, who returned a gross score of 178 for 36 holes to lift the Lapthorn Salver. Mags is an extremely well-liked and active member of the club, currently captain of the Ladies Handicap League and a regular competitor.
Winning the championship during Cradoc’s 50th anniversary year made it an extra special moment.
Well done to Mags and to all who took part.
The golf course at Cradoc is noted for its natural surroundings, abundance of wildlife, and mature tree lined fairways - there’s even the occasional water hazard too. Golfers of all abilities are offered a challenging, yet entertaining test of their golf.
