Llandrindod Wells 37 Glyncoch 7.

LLANDRINDOD improved their place in the League when they turned the tables on fellow strugglers, Glyncoch, who narrowly beat them away two weeks ago.

It was the manner of this victory that bodes well for whatever league the WRU places Llandrindod in next season, if indeed this proves necessary. Another win for the resurgent team before the the end of the League season would take them out of what is understood to be the relegation position, though this has never been confirmed.

Llandrindod started at a tremendous pace, with their young back line eating in to Glyncoch territory, before the referee called a temporary halt to break up a scrap between two players, both of who received a yellow card. Shortly afterwards, a Glyncoch player was red carded for attempting to assault a Llandrindod player, in full view of everyone, including the referee.

These moments of temporary madness passed and both sides managed to get down to business with a dominating Llandrindod pack pushing Glyncoch to their line, enabling Will Powell to touch down for an unconverted try.

The home side continued their offensive, and a lovely break by Simon Davies gave them a lot of territory before the move broke down. By now, the game was becoming rather disjointed because of an excess of penalties, though this did not stop Aled Price from touching down to be followed immediately from the restart, by Dave Smith catching the ball and sprinting to the line. Jac Holden converting. The game continued at it’s frantic pace to the whistle for half time, Llandrindod leading 17-0.

Jac Holden opened proceedings after the break with a 40 metre run to touch down under the posts for a self-converted try but Llandrindod were penalised after the restart, and Glyncoch took full advantage of this to score a converted try of their own.

Glyncoch were still on the back foot as Llandrindod’s quicksilver scrum-half, Dale Wilson, together with the rest of the backs, allowed Glyncoch no rest, and twice their defence gave way, with wing Gareth Oakley scoring a brace of tries, one converted by Holden.

This Saturday Llandrindod host Canton in the league, a match that should have been played in January but for pitch conditions.
