WALES defeated England in their 25th quoits ‘A’ international played at Builth Wells Bowls Club on Saturday.
The home side got off to a flying start with Alun Tovey and John Cooke winning the first two matches by 2 legs to 0. England won match number three but then wins for Stan Lloyd, Ian (Willy) Williams and Steve Miles gave Wales a comfortable 5-1 lead.
However England won the next three matches to put them within striking distance of victory only one behind. Elvie Davies won match number 10 to put Wales 6-4 ahead with three matches left. The next game went to England but Steve Jones and Mark Pritchard won the last two matches to seal an 8 to 5 games victory for Wales.
Special mention must go to Ian (Willy) Williams who on his debut for Wales beat one of the English talisman, Luke Turner, by two legs.
A huge thank you to Builth Wells for their organisation of the event.
JOHN COOKE
