The Bracken Singers began their mid-summer concert season on Saturday, June 7, with an evening performance at the Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells.
Later that month, they gave a Tuesday afternoon concert at the town’s Spa Nursing Home, followed by a well-received morning performance for residents and staff at Crosfield House, Rhayader, on Tuesday, July 1.
In August, the Singers returned to the Metropole on Wednesday, August 13, under the direction of Lyn Jones, who ably stepped in for regular leader Vera Buckler while she was visiting family in Canada. The concert proved another success. By Saturday, September 13, Vera had returned home but chose to sing with the group while Lyn Jones continued as leader. With three coaches at the hotel and a school reunion taking place nearby, the concert drew a larger audience than usual and was a great success.
The following Sunday, Singers performed again at the Metropole to an appreciative audience of rail tour visitors, and returned for another concert on Wednesday, September 24, reflecting their growing local popularity. Their final autumn concert was held at the Metropole on October 8, attracting another large audience who enjoyed a lively evening of music. The season concluded with a morning singsong at Crosfield House, Rhayader, where residents and staff joined in enthusiastically.
A spokesperson said it was heartwarming to see some of the residents and staff really enjoying the morning and joining in with the singing of the well known songs. The Bracken Singers’ efforts deserve recognition - over the summer and autumn they raised several hundred pounds for the Bracken Trust, performing voluntarily for the love of singing.
The group will begin their pre-Christmas concerts on Saturday, November 22, with a Christmas concert at St Padarn’s Church, Crossgates, starting at 7:30pm. Admission is £5, with tickets available by calling 07974 952218 or on the door. Light refreshments will be provided, and proceeds will go to the Bracken Trust and St Padarn’s Church.
