Brecon Beacons Tourism has appointed Carl Shaw as its new Chairperson as the organisation marks 20 years of supporting businesses across Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.
Mr Shaw, who is General Manager at Dan yr Ogof National Showcaves Centre for Wales, brings extensive experience in leadership, business, and visitor experience. He also sits on the Wales Association of Visitor Attractions, giving him a national perspective on the sector’s challenges and opportunities.
Based in Abercraf, Mr Shaw is also a local youth football coach.
He said: “I’m honoured to share that I’ve been elected as Chairperson of Brecon Beacons Tourism. Thank you to everyone for your trust and support. This year is a particularly special moment, as Brecon Beacons Tourism celebrates 20 years as a dedicated tourism group. Two decades of collaboration, passion, and commitment have helped shape the vibrant visitor economy we’re all so proud of. I’m excited to work with our members, partners, and the wider community as we build on this incredible foundation. Together, we can champion our region, support sustainable growth, and create an even brighter future for tourism in the Brecon Beacons. Here’s to the next 20 years.”
Julie Bell, Director of Brecon Beacons Tourism, said: “Carl and I already work closely together across a number of areas, and I’m very much looking forward to expanding our outreach and member support with his leadership as Chair. This is an important year for us, and having someone with Carl’s grounding in the sector helps us keep our businesses in the spotlight, champion our destination, and strengthen the visitor economy across Bannau Brycheiniog.”
The organisation also thanked outgoing Chair Colin Evans of Cantref Adventure Farm for his leadership, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and its renewed focus on destination tourism. Mr Evans will remain involved as a member.
