MP for Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe David Chadwick and MS for Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd James Evans exchanged insults late last night online.

The argument began when MP David Chadwick took to social media platform ‘X’ and posted a poll with the question “Which party do you think @JamesEvansMS will be representing tomorrow night on Question Time?”

The options on the poll were Conservatives or Reform, with Chadwick poking fun at recent rumours that James Evans could defect back to the Conservative party.

Mr Evans seemingly squashed those rumours this week when he published a post on ‘X’ saying: “Why on earth would anyone trust the Conservative party again?”

Along with the poll, David Chadwick also posted a video of James Evans MS back when he was a member of the Conservative party and said “he always has been and always will be.”

Evans defected to the Reform UK party earlier this year and will appear on the BBC’s Question Time this evening, which is taking place in Brecon.

In response to Chadwick’s posts on ‘X’, the MS commented: “Nice to know I’m living rent free in your head, David.

“I see you have been taking lessons from Ed Davey. Plenty of childish playground antics, but very little substance.

“The difference between you and me is simple. I was born and raised in this area. It’s my home, not just somewhere I turned up hoping to get elected.

“I’ve got roots here. You’ve got a sat-nav and a history of looking for anywhere that’ll elect you.

“And when the next General Election comes around, I suspect you’ll be needing that sat nav again. Only this time, it’ll be directing you to the nearest Jobcentre.

“Now, off you pop, David. The grown ups have work to do.”

David Chadwick quickly jabbed back at the MS to say: “I’ve had a career outside politics James. Unlike you I don’t desperately jump between political parties in search of another pay check. People tell me they want politicians with courage and convictions. You have neither.”

“Haha, is that really the best you’ve got, David?” James Evans clapped back with.

“I’ve worked on farms, on building sites and in local government long before I got involved in politics. I’ve never been afraid of a hard day’s graft, so spare me the lecture about working outside politics.

“I’ve spent my life in the community I represent so spare me the lectures about courage, conviction and hard work. You’re embarrassing yourself.

“Put the phone down and head to bed.”

And with that, it seems that’s what they did with the argument concluding there at 10.16pm.

Reform UK’s James Evans MS will appear on Question Time in Brecon on BBC at 9pm tonight alongside Delyth Jewell (Plaid Cymru), Stephen Kinnock (Labour), Mims Davies (Conservative) and writer and commentator George Monbiot.
