The annual commemoration of the Battle of Isandlwana and the defence of Rorke’s Drift at Brecon Cathedral took place on Sunday, 25 January.
A commemorative service was held at the Cathedral, and was followed by a lunch at Dering Lines in Brecon.
The Battle of Rorke’s Drift took place over two days in January 1879 and saw a force of 150 British soldiers and colonial troops hold off and eventually repel a series of attacks by 4,000 Zulu warriors.
The 24th Regiment, based in Brecon played a major part in the defence of Rorke’s Drift and therefore the Anglo-Zulu War.
Chair of Powys County Council, Cllr William Powell attended the commemorative event. He said: “As Chair of Powys County Council, I attended the Royal Welsh Regiment's commemoration of the valiant defence of Rorke's Drift in 1879 at Brecon Cathedral and afterwards at the Regimental Mess at Dering Lines. It was moving to see the warmth of the reunion between regimental colleagues and veterans during the historic commemoration. Such values are timeless and we should celebrate them.”
