The dental company behind the last NHS practice in Crickhowell has spoken of its disappointment at having to close.

MyDentist, which runs the Beaufort Street surgery, confirmed the site will shut on June 30, blaming the end of its lease and continued difficulties in recruiting NHS dentists.

A spokesperson said: “We’re sad to confirm that on June 30 our practice on Beaufort Street in Crickhowell will close. The closure is due to our lease for the building coming to an end and ongoing difficulties recruiting NHS dentists due to a national shortage.

“It has been an honour to provide dental care to all our wonderful patients in Crickhowell. We would also like to thank our amazing practice team at Crickhowell for their hard work and for always putting the care of our patients first.

“We have written to patients to inform them of where they may be able to continue their dental care following the practice’s closure.”

The closure has sparked concern among local leaders and residents, with Powys County Councillor Claire Hall saying the announcement came without warning and will be “devastating” for NHS patients.

Powys Teaching Health Board said it is working to secure new NHS provision and has launched a procurement process to find a new provider.

Patients can join the NHS dental waiting list at pthb.nhs.wales/dap and may be offered places at a mobile dental clinic currently based at Bronllys Hospital.
