An evening of Palestinian hope will be held in Knucklas Community Centre, Knighton on Saturday 5th of July, with an opportunity to speak with youth and leaders in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Hosted by the Radnor Palestine Links, RPL, the event builds on the success of previous years visits with young people visiting the area from Palestine, and is in conjunction with CADFA, a London based human rights charity.
Speaking to The Brecon and Radnor Express, a spokesperson from Radnor Palestine Links said: “We had organised a visit of a youth group from Palestine. Four girls and four boys and their youth leaders, from the West Bank and East Jerusalem. After months of planning and fundraising to make it happen, due to circumstances beyond our control, their visit has had to be postponed. They were due to visit Knighton Primary School, followed by a visit to the Bleddfa Trust, where alongside pupils from John Beddoes secondary school they were going to be involved in an art project.”
Despite the group not being able to visit, they will appear at the event via video link. Doors open at 4pm, with the group talking at 4:30pm. At 5:30pm, there will be a showing of 2020 short film The Present, directed by Farah Nabulsi and co-written by Nabulsi and Hind Shoufani. The story centres around a father and daughter in the Palestinian enclaves of the Israeli-occupied West Bank trying to buy a wedding anniversary gift. It won the award for BAFTA short film in 2021.
At 6pm there will be a buffet, and at 6:30 there will be music. The event is free to attend, but donations are welcome.
Radnor Palestine Links describe themselves as being a group united in a desire to support the cause of justice, freedom and peace for Palestinians in the occupied territories and Israel.
