Four roads in Brecon are due to close over the coming weeks as work continues to upgrade the town’s gas network.
Mill Street will close from Monday, October 12 for one week, followed by Maendu Street from October 17, also for one week. Danygaer Road is then due to close from October 26 for two weeks, with St Michael Street scheduled to close from November 2 for two weeks.
The closures are part of a major programme of gas pipe replacement work being carried out by Wales & West Utilities.
Work began in June and engineers are currently working in the Camden Road, Brynglas and Lon Slwch areas.
The company said the current phase of work is expected to be completed by mid-November, provided it remains on schedule.
A further phase is planned for summer 2027, when work will take place along Bridge Street, The Avenue and Cerrigcochion Road.
More than £2.2 million is being invested in upgrading the gas network across Brecon, with more than 7,700 metres of gas pipes due to be replaced.
Wales & West Utilities said the work was being carried out to ensure the network remains safe and reliable.
Andrew Coleman, who is managing the work, said: “This work involves investing in our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve.
“We ask motorists to strictly follow the traffic management signage to keep the traffic flowing, and our colleagues safe as they complete this work.
“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and business can rely on every day. While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it.”
The work has been planned in conjunction with Powys County Council.
Wales & West Utilities said customers can find information about gas pipe upgrade work in their area on its website.
