Young people from Hay-on-Wye’s Independent Navigator Scouts have raised more than £1,900 after taking part in a charity sleepout to support homeless veterans.

The group joined the Great Tommy Sleepout on March 21, spending 24 hours experiencing a small part of what life can be like without a home.

They raised £1,345 through online donations, with a further £500 collected during the event itself.

Their efforts were also recognised locally, with Hay’s Royal British Legion praising the group for their polite and respectful approach while fundraising. The organisation added a further £100 donation in support.

Scout leaders said they were proud of the group, not just for the total raised but for the way they approached the challenge.

The Great Tommy Sleepout raises money to support veterans facing homelessness, and the funds raised by the Hay group will go towards helping those in need.

The Scouts have thanked everyone who donated or supported them during the challenge.
