Families are being invited to take a step back in time this May half term, as Tretower Court and Castle hosts immersive events as part of Cadw’s nationwide celebration of Welsh heritage.
Running over the half term, Cadw’s jam-packed programme spans more than 20 castles, abbeys and ancient monuments across Wales - and Tretower is set to be one of the star attractions.
On Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1, Tretower will welcome the Freemen of Gwent for a weekend of living history. From 10:30am to 4:30pm, visitors will be able to experience medieval life first-hand through craft displays, demonstrations and storytelling – all within the walls of one of Powys’ most atmospheric historic sites. You do not need to book for this evene,t
The half-term fun begins a little earlier at Tretower, though, with a special Bat Walk on Saturday, May 24 from 8.30pm to 10.30pm. Led by Morgan Ecology, the evening stroll offers a chance to see and hear the court’s resident bats in their natural habitat.
Tickets for the Bat Walk are £10 per adult and £5 per child, with booking essential. Participants are asked to bring a torch, wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear, and note that dogs are not permitted on the walk.
Gwilym Hughes, Head of Cadw, said: “Our lively schedule of events across May half term will hopefully inspire pride in Welsh heritage, spark curiosity and offer fun for all ages. It’s an opportunity for families to get out and learn about the rich history that makes Wales so unique.
Cadw membership includes free entry to all events and unlimited access to 132 historic places across Wales, with children going free with any adult membership.
