Llandrindod toilets 'closed for the foreseeable future'

The newly refurbished toilets in Llandrindod Wells will be “closed for the foreseeable future”, due to on-going vandalism.

Llandrindod Wells Town Council said it had already been forced to replace locks and toilet roll dispensers in the disabled toilet at the Station Crescent facility because of vandalism. Now, they have confirmed that the decision to close them has been done so for health and safety reasons.

On the 17th of July, the town council reported severe vandalism, and said they are dealing with ongoing anti-social behaviour, which was costing local taxpayers money and causing frustration for the local contractors responsible for cleaning the toilets.

In a statement, Llandrindod Wells Town Council said: “Llandrindod Wells Town Council regrets to advise that it has been forced to close the Station Crescent Public Toilets due to continued incidents of anti- social behaviour and vandalism.

“The latest incidents, which were reported last week, have included the deliberate flooding of toilets and wash basins, the ripping out and damaging of electrical wiring and conduit, together with damage to fixtures and other items within the toilet facilities.

“The Town Council is extremely disappointed that the actions of a small number of individuals have resulted in the closure of a valued public facility.

“The operation, maintenance and repair of these public toilets are funded by the Council Tax payers of Llandrindod Wells. The cost of repairing repeated acts of deliberate damage places an additional financial burden on the Town Council and, ultimately, on local residents. Continued vandalism and the associated repair costs may have an impact on future Council Tax requirements.

“The Station Crescent Public Toilets will now remain closed while the necessary repairs are assessed and undertaken. The Town Council will subsequently consider the future operation of these facilities and what measures may be required to prevent further damage and ensure they can be operated safely and sustainably.

“Llandrindod Wells Town Council apologises for any inconvenience caused to residents and visitors as a result of the closure.”
