Over one hundred people are expected to march in Llandrindod Wells during its first ever Powys Pride parade on Saturday.

The July 16 parade is a landmark event for the LGBTQIA+ Community in Powys Powys and has attracted participants from across Wales to march in celebration of Powys Pride’s inaugural event.

It is just one small piece of a jam-packed day, however, and Powys Pride organisers have revealed the event programme ahead of the festival and evening.

The day kicks off with a parade around the lake at 12pm, arriving at the Temple Gardens for a free festival which runs until 6pm. The daylong event includes everything from dance workshops, drag acts, comedy and live music, to an exhibition space, book readings and history talks.

A ticketed event will also run from 7pm at the Pavillion, and will feature up and coming drag performer Polly Amorous, Britney Spears tribute Absolute Britney, and music from DJ Madame Twisted.

“The Powys Pride Planning Committee has worked extremely hard to bring this festival together,” said Shaun Griffiths, LGBTQIA+ support worker for Mid and North Powys Mind.

“Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a reality. We have an amazing team of volunteers, and we have received so much support from individuals and organisations across Powys.

“LGBTQ+ people still face discrimination and harassment on a daily basis, simply for chosing to live authentically.

“Powys Pride is a celebration by and for our community in Powys, though we invite anyone to come and join us in a celebration of love and solidarity.”
