Cllr Matthew Dorrance, the Leader of Powys County Council’s Labour Group has thanked Sir Keir Starmer for his service and wished him well for the future following his resignation as Prime Minister, which was announced this morning.

Sir Keir Starmer becomes the most short-lived Labour Prime Minister in history after appearing outside Downing Street this morning to confirm the news following confirmation that Andy Burnham would return to parliament.

Following the announcement, Cllr Matthew Dorrance, the Leader of Powys County Council’s Labour Group said: “Keir Starmer put the Labour Party back at the service of our country and for that I thank him, sincerely.

“His record is one of public service and I respect him for stepping up to serve our country.

“He has done the heavy lifting to restore Britain's standing in the world. His government took the important decisions that will lift children out of poverty and deliver a new deal for working people.

“I wish him well for the future and I thank him for his service.”
