A one-day celebration is set to mark the opening of a new events bar on Went’s Meadow, Presteigne, with music, food, games and a giant pub quiz.

The event, titled A Bar is Born, will take place on Saturday, August 16, organised by Sheep Music.

Running from 3pm to 10:30pm, the family-friendly celebration will feature live music, street food, a wide range of ales, children’s activities, arts workshops, and a six-round pub quiz hosted by event compère Loose Baker, also known as Madame Saucisson the Grand Inquizzitress.

Live music acts include Home of the Free, a local collaboration between Alex Valentine and Dave Luke, and Broken Brass, a high-energy seven-piece band from the Netherlands known for their explosive blend of funk, Afrobeat and New Orleans jazz, who have played more than 700 shows in 16 countries.

Children’s activities will include juggling clubs, diablo, and sock poi, while art sessions led by the Sidney Nolan Trust will invite all ages to contribute to a large-scale collaborative piece.

The Giant Pub Quiz begins at 5pm, with rounds covering everything from domestic science and sport to wildlife and astronomy. Winners will receive a handmade trophy by local sculptor and Sheep Music chair Owen Rimington.

Food stalls on the day include Cat’s Kitchen and Lockdown Dhaba, alongside drinks from the Sheep Music Bar and Tea Shack.

The event celebrates the completion of a new bar/store building on Went’s Meadow – a joint project between Presteigne and Norton Town Council and Sheep Music, supported by the National Lottery Community Fund and local fundraising efforts.

Tickets are priced at £15 for adults and £10 for under-18s. Children under 12 go free with an accompanying adult. Tickets are available online via WeGotTickets: https://wegottickets.com/event/669382/ or in person from The Salty Dog and The Workhouse Gallery.
