A Rhayader charity has received a £2,000 donation from Bryson Recycling to support its work helping people across the community.
Rhayader and District Community Support (RDCS) was chosen for the donation through Bryson’s Recycling Rewards campaign, which gives £1 to local charities for every tonne of material recycled at the Household Recycling Centres it operates for Powys County Council.
The donation was nominated by Cllr Angela Davies, who highlighted the range of services provided by RDCS.
The charity supports local people experiencing poverty, inequality and social isolation, while also promoting community wellbeing and environmental sustainability.
Its work includes running a community food bank, cookery clubs, community transport and social activities for older residents.
RDCS, which is supported by a team of volunteers, also operates a reuse and recycle shop, where donated clothes, textiles and household goods are sold to raise money for its community services and given a second life.
Jax Davies, joint chair of RDCS, said: “We are extremely grateful to Bryson Recycling for this generous donation,
“The funding will make a real difference to our ability to continue providing practical support to local people, from our food bank and community transport to our cookery and social activities.”
Bryson Recycling operates four Household Recycling Centres in Powys, at Brecon, Newtown, Lower Cwmtwrch and Llandrindod Wells.
Its charitable donations are divided between north, mid and south Powys.
Joe Williams of Bryson Recycling said: “We’re delighted to support Rhayader and District Community Support with this £2000 donation. RDCS is a fantastic example of how local communities can create positive change by bringing people together, supporting those who need a helping hand and finding new uses for resources that might otherwise go to waste. Their work reflects exactly why we believe in the power of reuse, recycling and the circular economy.”
