POWYS County Council has been told its bid to close Rhosgoch County Primary School has been rejected by the Welsh Government.

The council had intended closing the 15 pupil school, near Hay-on-Wye, at the end of the summer term this July, with pupils transferring to Clyro Church in Wales School.

But in what turned out to be one of his last decision as education minister, before he was forced to resign, Leighton Andrews told the council flaws in its consultation process meant he was rejecting the closure bid.

The council intends opening a new school at Clyro in 2015 and has said it will start a fresh consultation on closing Rhosgoch in the next academic year.
