The Powys Building Control team has raised more than £600 for Wales Air Ambulance during this year’s Royal Welsh Show, thanks to some unusual helpers.

During the event at Llanelwedd in July, two team members dressed up as Rubble from Paw Patrol to draw attention to the lifesaving charity, which provides emergency medical care across Wales.

A spokesperson for Powys County Council’s Building Control team said: “We were lucky to have a stand right next to the main ring and wanted to make the most of the opportunity by fundraising for a charity. As a team, we chose Wales Air Ambulance.”

Wales Air Ambulance delivers hospital-standard treatment to patients at the scene and, if necessary, transfers them to the most appropriate hospital. Its crews can provide advanced care such as administering anaesthesia, delivering blood transfusions, and performing minor operations on site.

“Powys is a large county, mostly rural and miles away from the nearest emergency hospital, so when someone gets critically ill or seriously injured, it’s a relief to know that the air ambulance is on standby,” added the spokesperson.

Visitors to the stand were treated to goodie bags and a daily raffle for a giant teddy bear, while Rubble made a memorable appearance at the Wales Air Ambulance stand, meeting staff and even snapping a photo with actor Martin Clunes, who was judging the Supreme Horse Championship.

Kate Thomas, Wales Air Ambulance’s Regional Fundraising Manager for Powys said: “Rubble certainly stole the show!

“We’d like to extend our thanks to the Powys Building Control team for doing such a fantastic job raising awareness about what we do, in such a unique way.”

Powys Building Control, which provides professional guidance to ensure safe and compliant building projects across the county, thanked everyone who visited their stand and helped support the fundraising effort
