A delegation from Llandrindod Wells travelled to Germany this summer to represent the town at the annual Stadtfest in its twin town of Bad Rappenau.
Vice Chairman of Llandrindod Wells and Area Twinning Association, Kelsham Hanna, was joined by former mayor Marcia Morgan for the six-day visit to the spa town in southwestern Germany, which saw the pair welcomed by long-standing hosts Peter and Helga Gaeling.
The packed programme included visits to a local salt mine, a heritage railway, and an historic castle complete with a bird of prey display. The pair also enjoyed a relaxing afternoon at Bad Rappenau’s thermal baths.
The highlight of the visit was the Stadtfest itself – a major community event featuring more than 20 live bands performing on two stages, alongside food stalls and beer tents. Marcia Morgan was invited to take part in the official opening of the festival, alongside the Deputy Mayor of Bad Rappenau and crew members of a German submarine visiting from Kiel.
Guests enjoyed unseasonably warm and sunny weather, with temperatures reaching the mid-thirties.
The delegation said it had been a warm and memorable exchange, made all the more meaningful by the opportunity to spend quality time with both their German hosts and fellow French twinning association members.
The Llandrindod Wells and Area Twinning Association is now planning further visits to Bad Rappenau and to its other twin town, Contrexéville in north-eastern France. The group is also seeking new members ahead of a special celebration marking 25 years of twinning with Bad Rappenau in May 2026, when 20 to 25 guests from Wales are invited to attend.
