Students from Ysgol Calon Cymru are celebrating success after taking top honours in this year’s Rotary Young Writer Competition.

The school, which has regularly entered the contest run locally by Builth Wells Rotary Club, saw two pupils progress through to district level before both going on to win their categories.

This year’s theme was ‘Happiness in Nature’. Martha Jones won the Intermediate section, while Matilda Batten took first place in the Senior category.

Both entries were subsequently put forward to the District competition, where they each secured first place in their respective age groups.

Judges praised the quality of the work submitted, describing the overall standard as “outstanding”.

The two winning entries have now been entered into the national final of the competition.
