BUILTH Wells maintained top spot in the Spar Mid Wales league second division with a 3-0 win at Aberystwyth University.

Following back to back defeats, Builth returned to winning ways against the students who were playing their first match of the term. Player-manager, Shane Claridge set them on their way converting a penalty when Charlie Boucher was brought down and Josh Price weighed in with a goal either side of half-time to cap an excellent performance from Builth.

Apart from Builth, there was no joy for the other local Division Two sides with Newbridge, Penybont and Presteigne all suffering heavy defeats.

Presteigne’s revival was halted at Abermule where Dave Anthony bagged a hat-trick for the hosts in a 6-1 scoreline. Tony Meredith, Rob Bayliss and Ryan Evans also netted for Abermule with Matt Strangwood replying for Presteigne who had substitute, Luke Brimfield sent off.

Penybont, still seeking their first win were beaten 5-0 at home by Borth United who welcomed back Ryan Davies. The striker, who had a short spell at Bow Street, returned to score four of the goals with Liam Lewis also on target for The Seasiders.

Aeron Powell (12) and Ollie Woods scored for Newbridge who went down 9-3 at Churchstoke with Andrew Green leading the way with four goals for the hosts. Max McLaughlin and Omer Bozdag each scored twice with Joe Haycock completing the tally.
