IT was a total whiteout as far as local football was concerned at the weekend. By Friday the entire Spar Mid Wales League programmes had been postponed although there were late efforts to play two games on the area’s 3G pitches. Rearranged fixtures between Llanfair United and Kerry at Newtown’s Latham Park and Borth United v Aberaeron at Aberystwyth Town’s Park Avenue were made but the one at Newtown fell foul to the weather on Saturday morning.

It was no different in the Watson Financial Mid Wales league (South) with all scheduled fixtures postponed on Friday while it was the same story throughout the region. All Montgomery Amateur League games and those in the Costcutter Ceredigion League and Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth & District League were postponed.

Further north, all games in the Huws Gray Alliance were off with three of the four JD Welsh Cup quarter final ties also having to be rescheduled. In the one quarter final played on Sunday, Bangor City beat Penydarren Boys & Girls Club 7-0 with hat-tricks from Luke Wall and Yves Zama.

In the one game which went ahead in Mid Wales, Aberaeron climbed into the top half of the Spar Mid Wales League first division with a 6-1 victory over Ceredigion rivals, Borth United. Liam Jaques led the way with a stunning hat-trick with Dan James, Mattie Davies and Ianto Evans also on target while Marcin Matyja gained a consolation for Borth. Aberaeron have now lost just one of their last ten in the league – a 2-0 defeat at Knighton Town last month – while Borth remain entrenched in the relegation places.
