New signing Andy Hammett scored with his first touch for Brecon Corries at the weekend, and there was memorable hat-trick for Llandrindod's Jack Evans as they triumphed over Llanfair United.
ARDAL LEAGUE SOUTH EAST
Brecon Corries are up to fourth in the Ardal League South East following Saturday’s 3-0 home win against Monmouth Town.
New signing, Andy Hammett sealed the three points scoring with his first touch for Corries after coming off the bench as Damien Daniels’ side made it four league wins in a row.
Nathan Williams rounded the goalkeeper to give Corries an interval lead and Joel Evans grabbed a second early in the second half.
Hammett, a recent arrival from Crickhowell, was introduced on 78 minutes and made an immediate impact slotting in a third to make it a dream debut as Corries completed a league double over Monmouth.
Corries will aim to keep their winning run going on Friday night when they visit Tredegar Town.
ARDAL LEAGUE NORTH EAST
Jack Evans was a hat-trick hero as Llandrindod Wells made a timely return to winning ways with a 3-0 victory at Llanfair United in the Ardal League North East.
The Spa Men had lost 3-2 at home against Llanfair earlier in the season but reversed that result to end a run of three straight defeats.
Llandrindod were boosted by the return of Ashley Jones, Danny Hall and Stuart Williams and were ahead after a minute with Evans opening his account.
Evans doubled Llandrindod’s lead from the penalty spot on 17 minutes and completed his second hat-trick of the season with an hour played to condemn early season pacemakers, Llanfair to their fifth league defeat in a row.
Bow Street were held to a 2-2 draw by the league’s basement side, Corwen and it could have been worse as they trailed to goals from Tom Williams and Gruff Evans before Llyr Davies and Dafydd Carruthers replied.
It was also 2-2 at Welshpool Town who were another to hit back from two down to salvage a point against visiting Llangollen Town.
New signing, Ben Duffy scored twice in the opening ten minutes for Llangollen but Ricky Litchfield and Josh Lenc netted for ‘Pool before half-time.
MMP CENTRAL WALES LEAGUE SOUTH
Knighton Town slipped to their third league defeat of the term as a 69th minute penalty from Ryan Edwards gave Penparcau a 3-2 verdict at Bryn-y-Castell.
Stef Antoniazzi had given Penparcau the lead but Knighton hit back with two goals just before the break.
Kieran Dovey levelled from the penalty spot for the Radnor Robins who were ahead in first half stoppage time courtesy of a Neil Evans own goal.
Liam Jaques took just two minutes into the second half to regain parity before Edwards settled the outcome with the afternoon’s second penalty.
Barmouth are four points clear at the top of the MMP Central Wales League North following a narrow 1-0 win at Abermule.
Paul Lewis grabbed the only goal early in the second half and later missed a penalty while Abermule had Callum Foulkes sent off on 52 minutes.
Tywyn Bryncrug saw their title challenge falter after going down 2-1 at home against ever improving Carno.
Second half goals from Geraint Jones and Ioan Humphreys put Carno firmly in control with Jamie Pymm reducing he deficit in stoppage time.
Elsewhere Robbie Hartshorn salvaged a point for Montgomery Town with an equaliser in their 2-2 draw against Meifod. Topscorer, Jack Williams had put Montgomery ahead before Meifod hit back through Andrew Gwilt and Alun Hughes
CENTRAL WALES CUP
Llandrindod Wells saw their Central Wales Cup tie against Tier Two side, Penrhyncoch postponed last Tuesday night but elsewhere in the competition, there were big wins for Bow Street and Caersws.
Bow Street eased past Aberaeron with a 7-0 midweek win under Aberystwyth Town’s Park Avenue floodlights.
There were two goals each for Dafydd Carruthers and John James with Rhydian Davies, Ryan Evans and Sion Ewart completing the tally.
And Caersws hammered Trewern United 11-1 in a tie played at Newtown’s Latham Park. Peter Rees led the list of goalscorers with four, Ben Phillips netted twice and Luke Evans (pen), Jared Marks, Craig Harris, Will Evans and Norton Collins were also on target.
Llandrindod will now meet Penrhyncoch on Tuesday January 31, the same night that Rhayader are due to play their outstanding tie against Knighton Town.
Builth Wells and Radnor Valley are both already through to the third Round with Builth having won at Llanrhaeadr while Radnor disposed of Forden United.
WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)
Newcastle are two points clear at the top of the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) despite being held to a 2-2 draw by local rivals, Felindre.
Tom Bright’s side extended their unbeaten run to eight but needed a second half equaliser from former player-manager, Craig Morris to salvage a draw.
Morgan Oakley had fired the Shropshire side ahead after latching on to a through ball but Paul Reynolds and Callum Turberfield had Felindre in front by half-time. But Morris obliged from the penalty spot on 76 minutes as it ended all square.
There might only be five teams in this season’s Mid Wales League (South) but it is really tight at the top with Felindre themselves, Hay St Marys Reserves and St Harmon all now just two points behind leaders, Newcastle.
FAW NATIONAL RESERVE LEAGUE CENTRAL
Builth Wells fell just short as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at FAW National Reserve League Central leaders, Bow Street.
It was always going to be a tough ask for The Bulls who incredibly had not played a fixture since November 19.
They found themselves trailing to an early goal from Rhys Hughes but George McCarthy-Allen had Builth back on terms by half-time. In a match played at Aberystwyth Town’s Park Avenue, it was Owen Roberts-Young who got the decisive score for Bow Street with just over an hour gone.
Second placed, Llanidloes Town are nine points behind Bow Street, with a game in hand, after a hat-trick from Gregg Brown helped them to a 6-3 home win against Welshpool Town on Friday night.
Jensen Jones netted twice and Rhys Evans completed the six hit with Ethan Kinsey (2) and Jordan Jones replying for Welshpool. It was not all plain sailing for Llanidloes who had goalkeeper, Dan Richards and goalscorer, Jones both sent off in the second half.
WELSH CUP
Newtown’s Welsh Cup hopes were shattered after suffering their biggest defeat for some time, beaten 7-0 at The New Saints.
Ben Clarke and Declan McManus both scored twice with Ryan Astles, Ryan Brobbel and an own goal from Newtown defender, Callum Roberts securing their place in the quarter finals.
TNS are also looking odds on for the JD Cymru Premier title following an 8-1 midweek victory at Flint Town United in midweek.
They pulled a massive 13 points clear at the top of the table with McManus, the league’s topscorer, helping himself to four of the goals.
