Cradoc Golf Club has enjoyed a packed and memorable week of competitive golf, with members and visitors turning out in force for a series of events that showcased the sport’s spirit and talent - despite some challenging weather.

The week teed off with the prestigious fourth Brecon Gurkha Golf Society Peepal Championship. The club was once again honoured to host this tournament, which drew 44 players and saw some excellent play despite tough conditions.

The Gross Winner was Sujan Rai, carding an impressive 77. The Nett Winner was Suryahang Rai, finishing four under par. Sujan Rai also claimed the longest drive of the day, while Dhir Gurung took the prize for nearest the pin. Organisers hailed the day as a great success, full of camaraderie and high-quality golf.

Thursday saw the spotlight shift to the women, with Cradoc Ladies hosting a Team of Three competition. Visiting players from nearby clubs joined the home side in strong numbers. After a close contest, the Cradoc trio of Janet Watkins, Mags Jones and Kathy Dobbs edged out Builth Wells’ Kay Coldrick, Marion Sneddon and Cathy Yates to take first place on countback. Cradoc’s Premalata Gurung claimed the longest drive, and Bronwyn Fox was nearest the pin.

The week culminated on Sunday, June 1, with the Cradoc Men’s Section hosting their first Open of the season: a hotly contested Texas Scramble. 47 teams of four took to the fairways -188 players in total - braving gusty winds to deliver some outstanding golf on a course in top condition.

The overall winners were a combined team from Brecon and Cradoc: Alex Moses, Peter Moses, Nicholas Rees and Chris Cookery, who stormed to victory with a gross score of 58. The top five teams received prizes, with additional awards for nearest the pin on all three par threes and the longest drive on the 14th.

A special mention goes to the team finishing fourth overall - Elfed Williams, Clive Price, Lyndon Withery and John Thomas - whose combined age exceeds 300 years. The veteran Cradoc and Kington quartet defied the odds to outperform many younger challengers with a fine display of skill and consistency.
