After heavy overnight rain and a less than promising forecast for the UK as a whole, the weather turned out to be a mixed bag of showers and overcast skies for most of the seniors’ open day on June 14.

Despite this, the vast majorities of entrants arrived in time for their start time, and it was a credit to the greenkeeping staff to get the course in such a favourable condition - a view echoed by many of the visitors.

Sunday June 19 saw a Stableford take place at Cradoc.

The morning golfers had the best of the weather with light winds and grey clouds but no rain to contend with but the afternoon players were unfortunate as the wind got stronger and with it came some heavy showers.

The results showed this change in weather with all the places being taken by the early starters and the first group had a real good time on the par threes making a total of 5 x 2’s between them.

Second, third and forth were decided on count back with Sam Hammond having the best back nine out of them but Huw Watkins produced an exceptional round to be clear of the pack by three points and claim his first win of the season.

Results: First: Huw Watkins (h’cap 8) 40 points; Second: Sam Hammond (h’cap 16) 37 points; Third: Chris Connolly (h’cap 9) 37 points; Fourth: Matthew Williams (h’cap 18) 37 points. There were four Titleist Velocity for 2’s.

A rare competitive round by Gareth Powell resulted in a very good score of 69 (2 under gross) in the midweek stableford on June 15.

Powell lead the competition right up until the last card came in off the course. He was pipped by a shot by Matthew who played great golf on the front nine and played level to his handicap on the back nine, the final place was taken by Bradley who played a couple shots under his handicap.

Results: First: Matthew Williams (h’cap 18) 40 points; Second: Gareth Powell (h’cap 1) 39 points; Third: Bradley Lynch (h’cap 9) 38 points. There were four Callaway Warbirds for 2’s
