A Brecon care worker has been recognised for their outstanding contribution during the past year at the annual Shaw Star Awards 2025.

The 16th Shaw healthcare national awards ceremony took place at The Tortworth Court Hotel in Gloucestershire on Thursday, November 20 and was hosted by actor, writer and explorer, Brian Blessed OBE.

Oluwatobi Adesanya (Tobi), who works at Trenewydd Care Home, won the Shining Star Award after being nominated by staff members and residents’ families. The award – sponsored by Aqua Protec – recognises and celebrates team members who are known for being selfless, dedicated, and committed to enabling colleagues to succeed and residents to flourish.

Tobi was commended for his exceptional kindness, dedication, and positive spirit. He goes above and beyond, often coming in on his days off to spend quality time with residents, whether by taking them for walks, playing piano, or hosting karaoke sessions. His genuine care creates a warm and supportive environment where residents feel valued and safe.

Tobi said: “I feel truly honoured to receive this award. Working at Trenewydd is so special because of the amazing residents and the supportive team I work with every day. Seeing the residents smile and knowing I’ve made a difference to their day means the world to me.”

Tobi was one of multiple award winners who were recognised at the event, which aims to celebrate the achievements of outstanding staff members across Shaw’s 63 UK facilities.

Russell Brown, CEO of Shaw healthcare, added: “We are delighted to be celebrating the 16th Shaw Star Awards, and once again, the number of nominations we received this year has been incredible. Each one tells an inspiring story of personal achievement and genuine care, and we are very fortunate to have such dedicated individuals as part of Shaw.

As an employee-owned company, it’s important that we recognise and celebrate the Shaw family. I want to extend a huge congratulations to Tobi and all of our winners and nominees – each one exemplifies Shaw’s ethos of delivering the care we would want for our own loved ones.”

As part of the event, the guests were treated to music from rock and pop covers band, The Flintlocks, and a prize draw sponsored by ADC, part of the SGD Group.
